This October, Heidi Carlsen premieres The Empty Pocket, a surreal fairytale of a woman and an heirloom peacoat.

Told through heightened imagery and poetry, the piece follows a voyage where trust turns as unpredictable as a capricious ocean, where what once felt safe becomes threatening, and where freedom is denied by authority's version of reality. Against that fear, she crosses the forbidden line, breaking the silence to speak up.

The Empty Pocket was workshopped in San Francisco, at LaMama Galleria (NYC), and through the School of the Art Institute of Chicago's MFA Low-Res program. The production features lighting design by Joyce Liao, media art by Nanda D'Agostino, and dramaturgical and directorial support from Mary Armentrout and Belinda He.
